KFI 640 : New Tower Project 2008
In December 2004, a small plane accident destroyed KFI's 750' antenna/tower. 3 years and 3 months later, a shorter tower is installed to replace the prior monolith.
This new tower is 75' shorter and incorporates a 50' diameter TOP HAT effectively increasing the electrical length of the antenna/tower. The tower will be guyed at 7 levels and include TORQUE ARMS just below the top to support the top hat. These pictures illustrate the design and construction.
A huge thank you goes to George Jacob, N6VNI, for a number of the shots (dated "MAR 12" and "MAR 15")! I'll fill in the comments and descriptions as I have time.

Painting the tower!

The NUTS are on the TOP of the flange! If the nut should come loose, the bolt will fall to the ground and be seen during weekly inspection of the site. If the nut dropped, it could be lost and you wouldn't know you had a compromised flange. The weld is for electrical continuity since the tower IS the antenna.
